The best coffee for V60 is usually a coffee with enough clarity and aroma to benefit from the brewer’s clean paper-filtered cup. V60 can highlight florals, fruit, acidity and layered sweetness that may be harder to notice in espresso or immersion brewing.
Which roast works best for V60?
Light to medium roasts are common choices because they preserve more origin character. That does not mean every light roast is automatically better. Development needs to be sufficient for sweetness and solubility, especially if you brew with lower-mineral water or a coarser grind.
Best origins for V60
Ethiopian coffees are popular for floral, citrus, berry and stone-fruit character. Colombian coffees can range from clean caramel and red fruit to highly expressive experimental lots. Uganda, Costa Rica, Panama and other origins can also make exceptional V60 depending on variety and process. Compare our guides to the best Ethiopian coffee beans and best Colombian coffee beans.
Washed, natural or experimental?
Washed coffees often emphasise clarity and structure. Natural coffees can bring more fruit intensity and body. Honey, anaerobic and co-fermented coffees can produce even more distinctive aromatics. Choose based on the flavour experience you want rather than process alone.
How fresh should V60 coffee be?
Very fresh coffee can release enough gas to disrupt even extraction. Allow the coffee to rest, then adjust grind, temperature and pouring based on taste. If the brew is sharp and thin, extract more. If it is dry, bitter or hollow, extract less or revisit water quality.
