Why Fresh Roasted Coffee Beans?
Â
Coffee possesses a multitude of flavour compounds. These compounds help you to perceive the different flavours and taste notes. When exposed to air they oxidise and degrade, making the coffee taste stale. Fresh coffee will be in peak flavour and will give you the best brew. It takes around 30 days before coffee starts to become stale; but with proper storage it can go up to a year.
What does proper storage entail? No exposure to outside air and sunlight, while also allowing the beans to breathe. This is why we have a one way valve in our coffee pouches. This ensures that the CO2Â from degassing goes out while not allowing any oxygen to come in. For this reason, we also do not recommend taking out the coffee from the pouches. This keeps unnecessary exposure to air at bay while the coffee is in use.
How Fresh Should Your Freshly Roasted Coffee Beans Be?
Â
In coffee, there is something like your coffee being too fresh. During roasting, coffee releases carbon dioxide. This process can go on for 2 to 3 days. Freshly roasted coffee needs at least 36 hours to rest properly and degassing before you can use it. Using freshly roasted coffee beans sounds better. The problem is, this coffee will have high acidity and will taste bitter.
An example some baristas use is that espressos made with freshly roasted coffee beans taste like battery acid. At Flava, ideally we let the coffee rest for a few days before we package and ship them out. This period is essential for the coffee to complete the degassing process.Â
To know more about how fresh is not always the best coffee, take a look at this video explaining the problems of a fresh roast.
Every roastery will have a roast date, make sure to check yours. If you get a coffee roasted less than 3 days ago, make sure to give it time for the degassing process to complete.Â
What to look out for when buying a coffee?

When you receive the coffee, look at its roast date. Ideally you should get a coffee that is 3 days past the roast date. This means the coffee is done degassing and you can start using the coffee beans right away.Â
Of course, if you truly do want freshly roasted coffee, you can always request it. But we would recommend you to not use it for a few until the degassing is done. Once 3 days are up, then your freshly roasted coffee is ready for use.
Ground coffee has a couple more rules.Â
In the case of ground coffee we grind it before sending it out for delivery. Like mentioned before, coffee oxidises, which makes it taste stale. With ground coffee the rate of the oxidation increases due to the increased surface area.Â
For this reason we do not allow our high end varietals like our Geishas delivered in ground up form.Â
Delivery formsÂ

When it comes to delivery depending on the time we can provide next day delivery if you order before 3pm depending on if the coffee is already roasted. After the 3pm cutoff time the drivers have already left and so the coffee processing turns over to the next day.
Flava uses third party delivery services like Percup, amazon and noon to reach our customers in other EmiratesÂ
We partner with services like Coffee boon for those who want a coffee subscription. They provide monthly and yearly packages for different types of coffees. Quick commerce stores buy in bulk and keep it in their warehouses for a long time. This can be even worse if the coffee is ground it will become stale due to the oxidisation of the flavour compounds, taking away from the flavour.Â
ConclusionÂ
Â
While it's better for your brewing experience that we take our time delivering, we get the need for. Fast coffee delivery in Dubai might be feasible, but this depends on a lot of factors.
How popular is the coffee? If the roastery has more batches in stock, then there will be a few pieces that are ready to go as soon as the order hits. Examples of this would be our Brazil Mountain Mist or Saka which are our best sellers. Niche coffees like Colombia Mora will be made to order as we want to give you the freshest possible beans.Â
Our delivery policy ensures we have the time to roast, degass the coffee beans, pack them and deliver to you.Â
For faster delivery and/or international shipping, we provide coffee via our partners. Check out our pages on Percup, coffee bono and Amazon.
